To provide affordable international health care, a comprehensive approach to healthcare in the United States is needed. Part of our high costs is due to drug cost negotiations both here and abroad
One feature in the United States that must be addressed is the idea that drug companies purpose is to make profit, and that they should compete with other companies for the most profitable formulation of the drug.
Another aspect that must be addressed is the unconscionably huge past and future compensation of all kinds– whether in salary, gifts, benefit, incentives , or some new type of awards–given members of the drug company’s team
A third problem has to do with waste from duplication of efforts. Duplication in terms of research and administration, selling and advertising.
If we want the best of all worlds, profit cannot be our highest motive.
If we want the best of all worlds, we must care for one another whether individual, company, or nation.
If we want the best of all worlds, we must take seriously the efforts of alternative medicine. Natural products that are efficacious regardless of profitability must be recognized and made available by the healthcare establishment.
If we want the best of all worlds, we must value collaboration over competition and value cooperation over individual achievement.
If we want the best of all worlds, we must take seriously Stephen Covey’s prescription for win-win activities.
If we want the best of all worlds, we will recognize the wisdom of Jesus words, “You cannot serve both God and Money.”
